Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

My goodness, this year has already started off with some drama.  In like a lion, out like a lamb though, right?

The internet is full of people's resolutions, intentions and goals for 2021.  Snow Happy's theme is love.  It really is what makes the world go around.

Love can be in a simple act of kindness, a smile for a stranger, a note to an absent friend, an extra treat for your pet.  It can also be in grand gestures too.  However it is expressed, it is a beautiful glue that brings us all together.  We all need that so desperately right now.

Snow Happy was conceived in love.  Love for the winter, for the snow, for the north, for the people who tough it out here in sometimes difficult circumstances.

Those very people are so creative, so imaginative and have so much to share.  It is our honour to be able to share just a wee bit of it with you.

May 2021 bring every happiness and blessing to you and your family.

In health and love,

The Snow Happy Family

Introducing This Bag

Introducing This Bag

This is the story of two Canadians who were laying awake, worrying about the seasonal businesses that would most likely not open after the impacts of Covid-19, when the idea of this amazing initiative came to them.  This Bag registered as a non-profit organization and has been providing grants and donating to causes that not only support small businesses but also address food security among children, the health of our bee population, educating girls and accessibility of clean water.

This Bag believes that Canadian small businesses make up the framework of our communities. Our small business owners closed their doors to help keep everyone safe, and now This Bag hopes to return the favour and help keep their business stay safe and well as they take steps to adapt in this ever changing marketplace.

Already, This Bag has had a significant impact across Canada.  For more information on This Bag or to apply for a grant, please visit thisbag.ca

Is November Too Early to Start Decorating for Christmas?

Is November Too Early to Start Decorating for Christmas?

In an ordinary year, I start playing the carols and decorating on December 1st.  The lights go up, the garland is dragged out, and all the little sentimental bits and bobs are placed here and there.

This year, that has all gone out the window.  The stockings have been up for a week, the carols are blaring and the lights are already flashing 24/7.

I've noticed there are far fewer complaints out there too about Christmas ads being aired just post Halloween.

I think we all need a little extra cheer this year.  No matter what holidays we celebrate.  We need some sparkle, some love, some reassurance that circumstances will allow us to be together again.

So put up the tree, buy some eggnog and sing Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer at the top of your lungs WITH all the side effects.

It might be only November, but the holidays are here!

Iqaluit Humane Society in Danger of Closing

Iqaluit Humane Society in Danger of Closing

There is so much need in the world, so  much change that we need to collectively create and navigate.  Often it can be difficult to know how we can best help or contribute.

Nunavut's only humane society in Iqaluit is in danger of having to close.  The building that they are now housed in is infested with mold, and is scheduled for destruction.  The charitable organization is dependent on donations day to day, but can not manage this new development alone.

The Iqaluit Humane Society re-homes up to 700 animals per year, a much needed service that benefits both people and the pets as well.

A fundraiser has been launched, and if you have the means and will to help, you may support the Iqaluit Humane Society here.

Planting a Tree with Every Order

Planting a Tree with Every Order
The state of the environment is enough to break our collective hearts.  At Snow Happy, we are committed to contribute to a climate crisis solution.  To do this, we partnered with Ecologi and this allows us to support carbon reduction projects around the globe with our own carbon offsets.  We also plant one tree with every order we receive, which hopefully one day will transform into one big magical Snow Happy forest.  For more information on our progress, click here. A Leap into the Unknown

A Leap into the Unknown

For two years now, this idea has been percolating, drifting in and out of the seams of my already busy life.

Today is the day that this small idea, born early on a frosty morning, is coming to life.  There will be growing pains and many lessons to learn, but in the endeavour to share happiness and joy, any obstable can be overcome.

It is my sincere hope that you will linger here from time to time, and share with me your thoughts, your own work, your own ideas so that this can be a collaborative and inclusive space.

Meet Frost, our very own mascot of Snow Happiness

Frost is Snow Happy's ambassador.

This little dude knows how to be snow happy.  He's a simple guy really.  He likes to talk about the weather.  He likes Canadian craft beer.  His best friend is a moose.  He just can't help sharing his snow happiness, which is why we love him.
